Walderslade

Walderslade is a settled, family-friendly suburb built around car ownership, strong schools and reliably low crime. Across Walderslade itself and the surrounding neighbourhoods of Boxley Downs, Fort Horsted, Lordswood & Walderslade, and Aylesford North & North Downs, the picture is consistent: semi-detached and terraced homes hold their value well, primary schools are rated Good across the board, and crime keeps falling year on year to levels well under the national average. Air quality is another strong point throughout, making this a genuinely healthy spot to put down roots. Getting about does mean relying on a car. None of these neighbourhoods have buses or trains close at hand, aside from Aylesford North & North Downs, which benefits from its own railway station. The M2, M20 and A229 make up for this, though, giving quick road access to Medway, Maidstone and London, and it's no surprise that over a third of residents in some areas work from home. Day-to-day amenities vary a little by location: Fort Horsted and Lordswood & Walderslade have supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants within easy reach, while Walderslade and Boxley Downs keep shops and healthcare just outside their boundaries, relying on a well-stocked wider area to fill the gaps. House prices and rents do shift between neighbourhoods. Walderslade and Boxley Downs command some of the strongest prices for semis and terraces, Lordswood & Walderslade sits more mid-range with cheaper rents, Fort Horsted offers the best value for buyers, and Aylesford North & North Downs runs higher thanks to its station and strong demand. Families weighing up grammar school access will also want to note Boxley Downs' proximity to Maidstone's top schools. Whichever pocket you choose, the suburb as a whole suits buyers who want space, safety and good air quality, and who are happy to drive rather than depend on public transport.
