Victoria

Victoria and the neighbourhoods around it make up one of Newport's more affordable and practical corners, appealing to families and buyers who want good value without sacrificing everyday convenience. Victoria itself stands out for its low prices on terraced and semi-detached homes, with Maindee Primary School on the doorstep and Newport's university and college campuses close by. Living costs here run well below the national average, and crime has fallen sharply over the past two years, backed up by 36 restaurants, 20 convenience stores and solid GP, dentist and pharmacy provision. The wider area shares a strong family focus. Beechwood, Lliswerry and St Julians all offer full school pathways within walking distance, from primary through to secondary and college level, alongside good access to GPs, dentists and opticians. House prices step up slightly as you move into St Julians and Lliswerry, where terraces average around £173,000 to £180,000 and semis £216,000 to £240,000, though all these neighbourhoods undercut pricier spots like Caerleon. Living costs across the board, including transport, groceries and council tax, consistently beat the UK average. Transport is where the neighbourhoods diverge a little. Lliswerry and Victoria both offer easy road access, to the M4 and A48 respectively, suiting commuters who drive, while St Julians is more car-dependent with limited public transport. Victoria's railway and bus stations sit just outside its boundary rather than within it. Across the whole suburb, crime has been falling steadily since 2024, and the combination of settled, long-term communities with improving safety and strong local amenities makes this a sensible choice for buyers prioritising affordability and practicality over premium pricing.
