The Grange

The Grange sits in a well-served pocket of south Edinburgh, surrounded by neighbourhoods that between them cover almost every practical need. Healthcare is a particular strength here, with multiple GP practices, pharmacies and hospitals within easy reach across the surrounding wards, while families have no shortage of good schools to choose from, including George Watson's College, James Gillespie's High School and a wide range of well-regarded primaries. Everyday amenities are equally strong, with cafés, restaurants and shops close by in Morningside and Southside/Newington, giving residents a genuinely local feel despite being minutes from the city centre. Transport is one of the area's biggest draws. You're within easy reach of the City Centre's railway stations and tram links to the airport, as well as good bus routes and cycle paths running through Southside/Newington and Craigentinny/Duddingston. Road connections via the A7 and A701 also make it straightforward to get across the city or out towards the bypass. Living costs vary a little depending on which side of The Grange you're drawn to, but transport and utility costs generally sit below the UK average, even though council tax tends to run higher in the more established residential streets. What ties the surrounding neighbourhoods together is a settled, family-friendly character, paired with excellent green space and consistently good air quality, from Duddingston Loch to the parks dotted through Liberton/Gilmerton and Portobello/Craigmillar. Morningside and Southside/Newington lean towards quieter, established residential living, while the City Centre ward nearby offers a livelier, more urban alternative for those who want nightlife and culture on the doorstep. Altogether, The Grange benefits from a rare mix of peaceful residential streets, strong schools and healthcare, and easy access to everything central Edinburgh has to offer.
