St Marychurch is a settled Torquay neighbourhood with a good everyday mix of pubs, cafes and shops, backed by Good-rated schools and solid GP and pharmacy provision. Crime has fallen consistently year on year and now sits well below the national average, while the mild, sunny coastal climate makes outdoor living a genuine draw here. House prices offer a sensible middle ground for the area, with terraces and semis priced close to neighbouring districts. Most people get around by car, though the neighbourhood's walkability helps keep monthly costs slightly below the UK average. The surrounding wards show just how much choice there is on this stretch of the Devon coast. Barton with Watcombe and Ellacombe offer the most affordable entry points, with terraces and flats well below St Marychurch's prices, alongside falling crime and good school ratings of their own. Tormohun brings excellent transport links, with two railway stations and a bus station, plus a strong restaurant and pub scene, while keeping housing costs below those in St Marychurch and Wellswood. At the other end of the scale, Wellswood and Shaldon & Stokeinteignhead command higher prices, particularly for detached and family-sized homes, reflecting their appeal to professionals and families wanting more space and a quieter pace of life. Across the board, common threads emerge: good schools, low and falling crime, strong healthcare access and a mild coastal climate with decent air quality. Transport costs tend to run below the UK average throughout the area, even where public transport is limited and driving is the norm. Whether you're after an affordable first home in Ellacombe, excellent rail links in Tormohun, or a premium family setting in Wellswood, St Marychurch and its surrounding wards offer a genuinely varied choice while keeping the same core appeal of low crime, good schools and that classic South Devon coastal lifestyle.
