Spital Tongues

Spital Tongues sits in Newcastle's inner west, surrounded by a group of neighbourhoods that together offer some of the city's best value and connectivity. Arthur's Hill and Elswick provide the most affordable housing, with Elswick terraces averaging £148,900 and flats around £65,200, well below the prices you'll find in Wingrove or nearby Monument and Jesmond. Wingrove sits a step up in price, with terraces at £241,500, but still undercuts the likes of Gosforth while offering stronger amenities, including 14 restaurants, 5 supermarkets and a hospital. Monument, right in the city centre, is dominated by flats at £153,000 and gives you access to hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants on foot. Transport and amenities are strong across the board. Every surrounding neighbourhood benefits from frequent buses and nearby Metro access, making it easy to reach central Newcastle without a car. Healthcare provision is a particular strength, with good GP and dentist coverage throughout, and Monument alone has nine GP practices close by. Schools are solid too, with several Good-rated primaries across the area and Outstanding options within reach, including Westgate Hill near Wingrove. Crime has been falling consistently across these neighbourhoods since 2024, a trend that adds confidence for buyers weighing up the area. Living costs sit below the UK average throughout, covering groceries, council tax and transport, which makes the whole area attractive if you want city-centre access without city-centre prices. The main variation is in housing type and cost: Elswick and Arthur's Hill suit those after affordability, Wingrove offers a bit more space and amenity for a higher price, and Monument delivers maximum convenience for those happy to live in flats at the heart of the city.
