Smithton sits on the edge of Inverness, giving residents a quieter, more settled base while keeping the city's full range of amenities within easy reach. The surrounding neighbourhoods offer strong schooling options throughout, from primaries right up to Inverness Royal Academy, Millburn Academy and Inverness College UHI, so families have genuine choice without long journeys. Healthcare provision is a real strength too, with multiple GP practices, pharmacies and hospitals all close by, and everyday shopping is well covered by supermarkets, coffee shops and local amenities. Transport is one of the area's biggest draws. You've got good road access via the A9 and A82, local bus services, and nearby train stations, making commuting into Inverness or travelling further afield straightforward, even if a car comes in handy for daily life. Living costs across the area run at or below the UK average, with transport spending notably cheaper than in many parts of the country, and rents stay more affordable than in other Scottish cities despite gradual increases. Quality of life stands out as well. Air quality is consistently good, winters are milder than you'd expect this far north thanks to the Moray Firth's influence, and crime levels are low, with some neighbourhoods reporting no recorded crime over the past three years. Whether you're drawn to the semi-rural feel of areas like Inverness South, with its nine parks and green spaces, or the denser convenience of Inverness Central, Smithton and its surrounding neighbourhoods offer a solid mix of family-friendly amenities, reliable transport links and good value for money, all within easy striking distance of the city centre.
