Sherdley
Sherdley sits within one of St Helens' most affordable corners, and that affordability runs right across the surrounding neighbourhoods. Parr and St Helens Town Centre offer the cheapest terraces, both around £100,000 to £103,000, while Peasley Cross & Fingerpost and Sutton North West sit a little higher but still well below the national average for living costs. Blackbrook occupies the middle ground price-wise, with semis and terraces costing more than Parr but less than Haydock nearby. Wherever you look, the pattern holds: solid value for money, whether you're after a terrace, semi or something larger.
Families are well served throughout the area. Schools rated Good or Outstanding crop up in every neighbourhood, from Parr's near-complete set of top-rated schools, including an Outstanding special school, to Sutton North West's three Good-rated primaries and Thatto Heath's own trio. Healthcare is another strong point, with GPs, pharmacies and hospitals well distributed, including two hospitals in St Helens Town Centre and a hospital plus GP practice in Thatto Heath. Crime is consistently below average and falling across the board, and air quality is good to excellent nearly everywhere, with several neighbourhoods meeting WHO guidelines.
Transport is where the area splits into two camps. Peasley Cross & Fingerpost and Thatto Heath both have their own railway stations with links to Liverpool and Manchester, and St Helens Town Centre benefits from frequent buses and easy M62 access. Parr, Blackbrook and Sutton North West, by contrast, have thinner public transport, so a car is more useful there, though all three sit close to the M6 or M62 for commuters. Day-to-day amenities are generally good throughout, with supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores close at hand, and green space is a particular strength in Parr and Sutton North West. Altogether, Sherdley's surrounding neighbourhoods offer a genuinely practical mix of affordability, decent schools and falling crime, with the choice between neighbourhoods largely coming down to how much you rely on public transport.
