Nottage is a quiet coastal neighbourhood on the edge of Porthcawl, known for its settled, family-friendly feel and crime rates well below the Wales and UK average. You've got a nursery and primary school right on your doorstep, with further schools and a comprehensive just a short drive away. House prices sit in the mid-to-upper range for the area, and while everyday amenities are limited within the neighbourhood itself, a good range of shops, restaurants and healthcare services sit just outside the boundary, keeping daily life convenient. The wider Porthcawl area, which surrounds Nottage, shares much of this coastal character. Porthcawl East Central and West Central offer stronger everyday amenities, with restaurants, shops, pharmacies and schools all close at hand, while Rest Bay commands some of the highest house prices locally, with detached homes averaging around £469,000, reflecting its sought-after beachside setting. Across the board, crime is low and trending downward, and a car remains the most practical way to get around, though the M4 corridor gives decent access to Bridgend, Cardiff and Swansea for work or leisure. Further inland, areas like Newton, Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr offer a more semi-rural, village feel with good local schools and below-average living costs, while Cornelly stands out as the most affordable option, with a railway station providing a useful alternative to driving. Taken together, this part of Bridgend county offers a strong mix of coastal and village living, consistently low crime, solid school provision, and living costs generally below the UK average, with property prices varying significantly depending on proximity to the seafront.
