Newtown brings together a mix of village charm and practical town living, spanning settled rural neighbourhoods like Godmanchester, Hemingford Abbots and Hemingford Grey, alongside the more urban Huntingdon East and Huntingdon North. Across the board, crime rates run below average and air quality is consistently good, with the East of England's drier, sunnier climate adding to the appeal. Families are well catered for too, with good primary schools throughout and a particularly strong run of Good and Outstanding rated schools in Huntingdon North, from primary level right up to St Peter's secondary. Housing costs vary quite a bit depending on where you look. Godmanchester, Hemingford Abbots and Hemingford Grey command premium prices for detached and semi-detached homes, reflecting strong demand for space and village living. Huntingdon North, by contrast, offers some of the most affordable property in the area, with flats averaging £152,000 and terraces around £226,000, while Huntingdon East sits in the middle, with detached homes notably cheaper than its village neighbours. This gives buyers real choice, whether you're after a quieter rural setting or more affordable town living. Transport and amenities follow a similar pattern. The villages lean heavily on the car, with limited public transport but easy access to the A14 and A1(M) for commuters heading to Cambridge and Huntingdon. The Huntingdon wards add a train line into London King's Cross in under an hour, making them a practical choice for London commuters too. Day-to-day amenities are strongest in Huntingdon North, with 25 restaurants, four supermarkets, eight pharmacies and six parks on offer, while the villages keep things simpler with cafes, pubs, local shops and a good spread of GPs and pharmacies. Altogether, Newtown offers a genuine choice between peaceful village life and well-connected town convenience, all within easy reach of each other.
