Milford
Milford sits on the eastern edge of Salisbury and combines quiet residential streets with strong connections into the city centre. It's a safe area throughout, with crime consistently below the national average and some neighbourhoods seeing particularly low burglary rates. The surrounding wards share a settled, family-friendly character, and you'll find a good number of people working from home, in some pockets as many as four in ten residents, which says a lot about the area's appeal to those wanting flexible working alongside semi-rural or village surroundings.
Housing here offers solid value compared to much of the South, with detached homes typically priced between £500,000 and £550,000 and terraced properties and flats providing more affordable entry points. Schools are a real strength across the area, with "Good"-rated primaries, an Outstanding grammar school, and even independent options and a sixth form college within reach, giving families plenty of choice. The climate is another draw, with milder, sunnier and drier conditions than the UK average making outdoor living genuinely enjoyable.
Getting around is straightforward thanks to good links to the A36, A345 and A303, plus Salisbury train station for direct rail connections to London. For day-to-day amenities, you'll generally need to head into Salisbury itself, as most neighbourhoods here are quieter residential pockets rather than hubs of shops and services. That said, local touches like parks, pubs and village shops crop up in spots such as Laverstock and Alderbury, adding to the sense of community that runs through the wider Milford area.
