Mallusk

Mallusk and the neighbourhoods around it form a quiet, car-friendly corner on Belfast's northern edge, built around easy M2 access that makes commuting into the city straightforward. Crime rates across the area run well below the UK average and continue to fall, air quality is consistently good, and living costs, including council tax and utilities, sit comfortably below national figures. Rents are more affordable than in Belfast itself, though they've been creeping up in places, making this a sensible choice for buyers and renters after space and value without giving up city access. Families are well catered for throughout, with Mallusk itself offering a state-funded integrated primary school on the doorstep and a good spread of further options, including faith, Irish-medium and SEN provision, in Carnmoney, Glengormley and Newtownabbey nearby. Glengormley stands out for secondary schooling too, with a well-regarded integrated college. Everyday amenities follow a similar pattern across the area: you'll typically find a pub, convenience store or park close by, but bigger shops, supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants mean a short trip to Glengormley or Newtownabbey. Hightown and Ballyhenry are the exceptions worth checking on healthcare, as GP registration and dentist access vary more there than elsewhere. The main thread running through every neighbourhood here is car dependency. Public transport relies mainly on buses, so a car makes a real difference day to day, even though road links to Belfast are strong. Beyond that, the differences are subtle rather than stark: Carnmoney and Burnthill lean slightly more settled and residential, Glengormley offers the most on-site amenities, and Hightown and Ballyhenry feel a touch more removed from everyday conveniences. Across the board, though, this is a settled, affordable stretch of Greater Belfast that suits families and commuters who don't mind driving.
