Hurlet

Hurlet sits in a well-connected pocket between Glasgow's south side and Paisley, giving residents the benefit of two urban centres without the cost of living in either. Transport is a real strength here, with train stations at Barrhead, Paisley and Cardonald putting Glasgow within easy reach, while the M8 and M77 motorways make driving commutes straightforward too. Living costs across the surrounding neighbourhoods run consistently below the UK average, particularly for council tax, groceries and transport, making this an affordable base relative to much of Glasgow. Families are well catered for throughout the area, with a strong choice of primary and secondary schools, including some of East Renfrewshire's top-performing options alongside solid council-run schools in Cardonald and Paisley. Healthcare provision is dependable across the board, with GPs, dentists, pharmacies and hospitals all within easy reach, and everyday amenities like supermarkets, restaurants and parks are well distributed. Green space is a common thread too, from Eastwood Park to the numerous smaller parks dotted through Cardonald, Greater Pollok and Barrhead. There's some variation depending on which side of Hurlet you lean towards. The Barrhead and Newton Mearns direction offers a more suburban, family-oriented feel with excellent schools and slightly higher living costs reflecting that appeal. Head towards Paisley or Cardonald and you'll find a denser, more walkable mix of cafés, shops and transport links, with costs running even lower and rental prices staying accessible. Whichever direction you look, the overall picture is one of practical, well-connected living with strong schools, good healthcare and genuine affordability compared to central Glasgow.
