Horse Close
Horse Close sits within the Craven area, a part of North Yorkshire that blends Dales scenery with genuine everyday convenience. Across the surrounding neighbourhoods, you'll find strong transport links, with Skipton and Aire Valley railway stations providing direct routes to Leeds and Bradford, backed up by the A59 and A65 for road journeys. Crime rates are a standout feature throughout the area, sitting well below national and regional averages and continuing to fall, which points to a settled, safe community. Air quality is consistently good, and healthcare provision is solid, with GPs, dentists and hospitals within easy reach.
Schools are another real strength here. Good-rated primaries turn up across every neighbourhood, from Silsden and Steeton to Addingham, which is rated Outstanding, while families planning for secondary education benefit from two selective grammar schools, Ermysted's and Skipton Girls' High, alongside Upper Wharfedale School and other well-regarded options. This makes the area particularly appealing if you're looking to settle long-term with children.
House prices vary depending on exactly where you look. Skipton East & South and Skipton West & West Craven offer some of the more accessible options, with terraces, flats and semi-detached homes providing good value, while Aire Valley, Skipton North & Embsay-with-Eastby and Wharfedale command higher prices, particularly for detached homes, reflecting their more rural, premium settings. Day-to-day amenities follow a similar pattern: some pockets, like Skipton North, offer a wide choice of shops and coffee shops right on the doorstep, while quieter spots such as Aire Valley and Wharfedale rely a little more on nearby towns for groceries and pharmacies. Whatever your budget, the broader area suits buyers wanting good schools, easy commuting and a safe, well-connected base without losing that Dales-fringe character.
