Hightown

Hightown brings together a set of quiet, settled Wrexham neighbourhoods that share a strong family appeal and falling crime rates. Housing ranges widely, from Smithfield's affordable terraces at £129,994 and flats around £92,803, through Hermitage's mid-market mix, up to Marchwiel's detached homes averaging £388,000. Erddig sits towards the pricier end too, while Whitegate offers better value on semi-detached and terraced properties. Across the board, crime is trending down and in several wards already sits below the Wales and UK averages, giving the whole area a stable, long-term feel that suits families and settled renters alike. Schools are a real strength here. Each ward has at least one good primary within walking distance, including St Joseph's in Erddig, Ysgol Bodhyfryd and St Christopher's in Hermitage, Welsh-medium Ysgol Deiniol in Marchwiel, and Gwenfro Community Primary in Whitegate, with wider secondary choice available in Wrexham itself. Living costs consistently run below the UK average, driven by cheaper groceries, transport and council tax, making Hightown an affordable base relative to national figures. The main trade-off is access to everyday amenities. Smithfield stands out as the exception, with shops, restaurants, GPs and transport links all close by, but the other neighbourhoods, Erddig, Hermitage, Marchwiel and Whitegate, generally sit just outside the reach of shops, surgeries and public transport, meaning a car is pretty much essential for day-to-day life. Good A road connections throughout make commuting manageable, and Marchwiel residents also benefit from nearby rail links via Wrexham. Overall, Hightown works well for buyers wanting value, good schools and a quieter pace of life, provided you're happy to drive for your weekly shop and daily errands.
