Clooney

Clooney sits within a cluster of Londonderry neighbourhoods that share a strong thread of affordability and falling crime. Across the board, living costs run below the UK average, with cheaper transport, lower council tax and rents that stay well under what you'd pay in most UK cities. Crime has been dropping year on year in nearly every ward, now sitting below both the Northern Ireland and UK averages, which gives the whole area a settled, improving feel rather than one in decline. Families are particularly well catered for. Schools are a standout strength, with Oakgrove Integrated, Foyle College, Lumen Christi College and Londonderry Model Primary all featuring across the surrounding wards, alongside a good spread of GP practices and dentists. Ebrington adds a railway station and good air quality into the mix, while City Walls gives you genuine car-free living with buses, taxis and footways right into Derry's café, restaurant and bar scene. Elsewhere, the pattern is more suburban: Lisnagelvin and Northland offer supermarkets, parks and gyms within easy reach, while Caw and Victoria lean on nearby amenities just outside their boundaries rather than within them. The main variation is between the lively, walkable city centre feel of City Walls and the quieter, car-dependent setup in areas like Caw and Madam's Bank, where you'll want a car for shopping, dining and commuting. Road links via the A2 and A6 tie the whole area together, making Derry city centre an easy drive regardless of which pocket you're in. Taken as a whole, Clooney and its surrounding neighbourhoods suit families, first-time buyers and renters after solid schools, good value for money and a genuine sense of neighbourhood improvement.
