Chinatown

Chinatown sits right in the middle of the West End, surrounded by some of London's most connected and amenity-rich neighbourhoods. You're never far from a Tube station, with Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden and Tottenham Court Road all within walking distance, and Santander Cycles and dense bus routes make car-free living genuinely practical here. Restaurants, bars, theatres and shops are everywhere, reflecting Chinatown's role as one of the capital's busiest dining and entertainment hubs, and healthcare provision across the surrounding neighbourhoods is excellent, with dozens of GPs, dentists and hospitals close by. Property prices vary considerably depending on which direction you head. Flats in the immediate West End area average £2.68 million, with St James's close behind at £2.83 million, while Knightsbridge and Belgravia sit at the very top of the market with terraced houses averaging £5.64 million. Head towards Holborn, Farringdon or Pimlico and prices drop sharply, with flats around £729,000 to £913,000, offering a more accessible route into central London living. Crime figures are falling across the board year on year, and most of the surrounding neighbourhoods benefit from conservation area status, which helps preserve the character of the streets even amid heavy footfall from shoppers, workers and tourists. Families are reasonably well catered for despite the area's reputation as a nightlife and entertainment centre, with Outstanding-rated schools including Grey Coat Hospital, St Peter's Eaton Square and Westminster School all within reach, plus several Outstanding primaries dotted through the neighbouring wards. Green space is limited, as you'd expect this close to the centre, but the trade-off is unmatched access to culture, dining and transport. This makes Chinatown and its surrounds a compelling choice for professionals and buyers who value location and lifestyle over garden space or a quiet suburban pace.
