Castlefields

Castlefields sits just north of Shrewsbury town centre and offers some of the best value housing in the area, with terraces, semis and flats consistently priced below neighbouring wards. Semi-detached homes typically range from £198,000 to £216,000, and living costs across the board, including council tax and transport, run well under the UK average. This affordability comes without sacrificing quality of life: crime has been falling steadily year on year across the whole suburb, air quality scores highly, and you'll find good-rated primary schools on your doorstep, including Greenacres, Grange, St Giles, Belvidere and Mount Pleasant. Connectivity is a strong theme throughout, though it varies by location. Areas closer to the centre, such as Quarry & Coton Hill, give you a railway station, bus station and strong cycling links right on your doorstep, with a third of residents already working from home. Further out in Harlescott and Sundorne & Old Heath, you'll rely more on the A49 and primary roads to get into town, as these spots lack their own train or bus stations. Castlefields & Ditherington strikes a middle ground, with a short walk getting you to Shrewsbury's railway station and town centre. Day-to-day amenities are well covered across the suburb, with GP surgeries, pharmacies, dentists and convenience stores available locally in most areas. The closer you get to the town centre, the more choice you get, with Quarry & Coton Hill standing out for its 70 restaurants, six supermarkets and 11 gyms, alongside excellent schooling options including Outstanding-rated Oxon CE Primary and Shrewsbury School. Green space is another consistent draw, with parks scattered across Castlefields & Ditherington and Underdale adding to the settled, family-friendly feel that defines this part of Shrewsbury.
