Carrick Hill sits right on Belfast's doorstep, drawing together the strengths of the surrounding neighbourhoods of central Belfast, Duncairn, New Lodge, Shankill and Water Works. The standout theme across the whole area is affordability: living costs consistently come in well below the UK average, with council tax, groceries and everyday expenses all offering good value, while rents stay accessible even this close to the city centre. Families are well catered for too, with a strong cluster of primary schools on the doorstep and respected secondary options nearby, including Belfast Royal Academy, Saint Malachy's College and Queen's University, alongside solid GP and dental provision throughout. Connectivity is another consistent strength. You'll find railway stations, bus links and good road access throughout the area, plus cycleways and rental bike points that make getting around straightforward without a car. Air quality is rated "Good" across the board, and shops, cafés, pubs and everyday services are all within easy reach, giving the area a genuinely walkable, well-serviced feel. Crime rates vary somewhat between the neighbourhoods, running above the Northern Ireland average in several spots, but the picture is consistently improving, with falling figures reported across Duncairn, New Lodge, Shankill, Water Works and the central Belfast area over the past two to three years. Burglary and vehicle crime stay low throughout, which is a reassuring sign for buyers. Altogether, Carrick Hill offers a well-connected, affordable base close to Belfast's amenities and universities, with strong community feel and improving safety trends making it a sound choice for families and first-time buyers alike.
