Carnmoney
Carnmoney is a quiet, family-friendly suburb on Belfast's northern fringe, made up of several settled residential pockets including Ballyhenry, Burnthill, Carnmoney Hill, Fairview, Glebe, Glengormley and Mossley. Across the board, crime rates run well below the UK average, often less than half, and air quality is consistently good, making this a comparatively safe and pleasant place to settle down. Living costs are a real draw too, with council tax, utilities and transport all sitting noticeably below national figures, and rents remain affordable compared to Belfast city, even as demand has pushed prices up slightly in recent years.
Families are well catered for throughout the suburb, with a strong network of primary schools, including Carnmoney Primary, Earlview Primary, Ashgrove Primary and Mossley Primary, plus faith and integrated options. Secondary provision is a little more mixed: Glengormley benefits from a well-regarded integrated college, Carnmoney Hill has Abbey Community College nearby, and other pockets rely on schools just outside their immediate boundary. Everyday amenities follow a similar pattern. Glengormley and Mossley offer the best day-to-day coverage, with supermarkets, pharmacies, dentists and restaurants close at hand, while areas like Ballyhenry, Burnthill, Fairview and Glebe lean on neighbouring districts for shops and healthcare.
Transport is where the suburb splits most clearly into two camps. Most of Carnmoney is car-dependent, with limited bus services, though the M2 motorway gives straightforward access into Belfast for commuters. Mossley stands out with its railway station, making it a particularly good fit for those who'd rather not drive. Taken together, Carnmoney suits buyers and renters after suburban calm, strong value for money and easy road links to the city, with the choice of neighbourhood coming down to how much weight you put on local amenities versus a quieter, more residential setting.
