Brixington

Brixington is a settled, family-friendly suburb on Devon's coast, built around two Good-rated primary schools, low and falling crime rates, and some of the cleanest air you'll find anywhere in the UK. It's a car-dependent area with no train station of its own and limited bus routes, though the A376 gives a straightforward run into Exeter, and nearby Exmouth Halsdon offers a railway station with direct links to Exeter for those happy to travel just outside the boundary. Local parks, a pub and everyday shops cover the basics, with more shops, restaurants and supermarkets available in the surrounding Exmouth wards. Property here strikes a reasonable balance: semis and terraces cost more than in neighbouring Exmouth areas, but detached houses and flats remain comparatively affordable, and day-to-day living costs sit close to the national average with cheaper transport bills than many areas. This fits the wider pattern across the surrounding wards, where houses generally command a premium over flats and buyers are drawn by space, safety and schools rather than fast transport or nightlife. Exmouth Halsdon and Withycombe Raleigh follow a similar script, with low and falling crime, good primary schooling (though Withycombe Raleigh's secondary provision needs checking), and limited local healthcare that makes a car useful. Further out, Budleigh & Raleigh and Woodbury & Lympstone show what's possible at the higher end of the market, with strong demand pushing prices well above Brixington itself in exchange for larger plots, excellent schools and, in Woodbury & Lympstone's case, a genuine rail commute into Exeter via three stations on the Avocet Line. Taken together, the area around Brixington suits buyers who want a quiet, low-crime, family-oriented setting with good air quality and decent schools, and who are comfortable relying on a car for the wider shop, GP and transport needs that fall outside the immediate neighbourhood.
