Blairgowrie

Blairgowrie sits at the heart of Perthshire's rural belt, offering a genuinely well-rounded small-town lifestyle. The town itself has local GP practices, a hospital, pharmacies and a full run of state schools from primary through to Blairgowrie High School, backed up by supermarkets, convenience stores and banking on your doorstep. The A93 connects you to Perth and Braemar, though like much of the surrounding area, you'll want a car rather than rely on public transport. The wider area draws on a network of Perthshire and Angus villages that share a lot in common: clean air, low crime and living costs that run comfortably below the UK average, mainly thanks to cheaper council tax and transport. Strathmore and Carse of Gowrie both offer village primary schools and a strong sense of community, with Carse of Gowrie adding a railway station for direct links to Perth and Dundee. Strathtay goes a step further on connectivity, pairing its own railway station with a surprising density of pubs, cafés and shops for a rural setting, plus access to independent schools like Glenalmond College and Strathallan School. Kirriemuir and Dean, and Monifieth and Sidlaw, extend the theme further afield, the latter benefiting from a coastal setting and two railway stations into Dundee. For bigger city amenities, Perth City Centre is within easy reach, bringing dense shopping and dining, strong healthcare and good transport links via its railway and bus station, plus the A9 and M90 beyond. Across the whole area, rents sit well below those in Dundee City and Angus, and larger family homes offer particularly good value for space. Taken together, this is a part of Scotland built for anyone after a quieter pace of life, strong local schools and easy access to larger towns, provided you're happy driving for day-to-day errands.
