Bare

Bare is a coastal neighbourhood on Morecambe Bay that pairs seaside living with genuine convenience. Pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and supermarkets sit within walking distance, with a much wider choice of shops and dining just beyond the boundary. Crime rates run well below the national average, air quality is excellent, and transport costs are lower than you'd find across the UK thanks to good bus links and a primary road connection into Lancaster. House prices sit mid-to-upper for the area, particularly for flats and terraces, backed by a steady, long-standing rental market. Families are especially well catered for, with Great Wood Primary right on the doorstep and strong schooling continuing into the surrounding neighbourhoods. Torrisholme, just next door, adds an Outstanding-rated primary and several Good-rated options, along with a train station and its own mix of restaurants, pubs and parks. Westgate extends the choice further with cheap entry-level terraces and flats, four fitness venues within walking distance, and Westgate Primary close by, while Poulton brings its own railway station, excellent healthcare provision and a lively scene of 20 cafés, 25 pubs and bars, and 34 restaurants. For those wanting more space and a quieter pace, Bolton & Slyne offers a rural, settled feel with low crime, clean air and higher-end detached and semi-detached homes, albeit without a train station on the doorstep. Across all these areas, the common thread is a settled, family-friendly character: good schools, low crime, clean coastal air and manageable transport costs. The main variation comes down to budget and lifestyle. Bare and Bolton & Slyne sit at the higher end for house prices, Poulton and Westgate offer more affordable entry points, and rail access varies, with Poulton and Torrisholme benefiting from their own stations while Bare and Bolton & Slyne rely more on buses and road links. Whatever your priorities, Bare and its surrounding neighbourhoods offer a coastal base with easy access to Lancaster and beyond, without the price tag of city-centre living.
