Altens

Altens sits on Aberdeen's southern edge, within easy reach of the well-established neighbourhoods of Kincorth, Nigg and Cove, Torry and Ferryhill, and North Kincardine. It's a practical, well-connected part of the city, with the A90 giving quick road access into Aberdeen and further afield, and nearby railway links at Portlethen adding another option for commuters. Living costs across the surrounding area tend to run below the UK average, particularly on council tax and transport, making it an appealing spot for families and professionals watching their budgets. Schools and healthcare are strong points throughout the area. Kincorth, Nigg and Cove offers a complete run of state education from nursery to college, while North Kincardine adds six primary schools and Portlethen Academy to the mix. GP practices, dentists and pharmacies are well distributed across the surrounding neighbourhoods, and Torry/Ferryhill brings a hospital into easy reach too. Green space is plentiful, with parks and open areas cropping up in every neighbourhood, and air quality scores consistently well, supporting an active, outdoor lifestyle. There's some variation depending on which direction you look. Torry/Ferryhill stands out for transport variety, with a railway station, bus station and even ferry terminal access, plus strong EV charging provision. Kincorth, Nigg and Cove suits drivers best, given its limited public transport but excellent road links and notable EV infrastructure, including a Tesla Supercharger. North Kincardine, meanwhile, has recorded no crime over the past three years and offers some of the more affordable rents in the area. Altogether, the areas surrounding Altens offer a settled, family-friendly feel with solid amenities, good schools and reasonable living costs, making it a sensible choice for buyers prioritising space and value close to Aberdeen.
